Shore Hockey Top 10: Southern moves up; Wall, Jackson Lib move in

2. Middletown North (6-0-0, 5-0-0) – last week No. 2: Middletown North’s NJSIAA Public title defense has gone according to plan through three weeks, as the Lions remained undefeated with a pair of divisional victories over Freehold Township (Dec. 15) and Freehold Boro (Dec. 18), and, dating back to a divisional tilt with Howell on Dec. 11, has extended its unbeaten streak without 2014-15 Shore Conference Player of the Year Bobby Hampton, who is currently skating with the Chicago Steele (USHL). Until Hampton returns in the new year, Middletown has looked to Khristian Acosta to carry the load, and the Quinnipiac commit has done just that with 17 points on 10 goals and seven assists in his last three outings.

5. Middletown South (4-1-2, 3-0-2) – last week No. 6: Middletown’s top line scoring tandem of Gavin Gulash and Ryan Lambert have appeared regularly in the Eagles last four tilts, and over that stretch this club has looked dominant, delivering four straight wins dating back to Dec. 10 after starting the year off with an 0-1-2 mark. Middletown recorded pair of divisional wins this past week of Red Bank Regional (Dec. 19) and Wall (Dec. 22) and its last four games has outscored opponents by a combined score of 28-3, speaking also to the club’s defensive capabilities, and the solid play of freshman goaltender Clay Simonsen.
